When Savannah Van Band followed me on Twitter last week, I knew I had to immediately check them out. One – I love girl-fronted rock bands, Two – They have a great website, Three – Come on, they look pretty damn cool! So, when I hit play on their “Never Know” music video I was so happy when the song kicked a$$. I highly recommend checking them out and if you live in Cali, then you’ll probably be lucky enough to see them in concert sometime!
The band that really got me into concerts was the band Hanson. I started listening to them back in 1997 when Mmmbop first came out and never stopped. Nearly 16 years later and they are still my musical drug of choice. One of their songs that means the most to me is “Lost Without Each Other”….besides just loving this song, I’m actually in the music video!! Yep, they filmed it at a concert I was at in Boston back in 2004 ๐ Does that make me a video girl AND a merch girl?? lol Check it out here.
So…since I joined Twitter a few weeks ago, and professed my love of books, writing and music around the world, I’ve started being “followed” by lots of bands and musicians, including many indie/local ones. I love both indie and major label bands – in college I was ย even a merch girl for some local bands and I always support the “little guys!” I mean, hello…I wrote a freakin book about an indie band and their merch girls on tour!
Anyway, I’ve decided to feature some of these new/not-so-new/about-to-be-famous bands and musicians on my blog in a brand spankin new “Band to Watch” feature. I’ll try and go in the order of bands that follow me, and I’m only going to post those that I actually like. Music is subjective, so if I don’t like it, it doesn’t mean you suck, it just means that you’re not for my ears ๐
First up: An Honest Year
Matt McKay, the vocalist for An Honest Year followed me on Twitter a few days ago. I just clicked the YouTube link on his profile and really enjoyed their song, You and All Your Friends. Check it out below!
I just finished reading Divergent by Veronica Roth.
What a fantastic book!! It’s similar to the Hunger Games in that it’s a Dystopian Young Adult book with a butt-kicking teen girl lead, but the actual story is very different. I loved the tension between the main character, Tris, and her instructor, Four. I was chanting in my head “kiss, kiss, kiss!” every time they were in a scene together! ๐ I would definitely recommend reading it!
So happy that Fall Out Boy is back! They were a huge part of writing my first novel and I just can’t get enough of their music!! Check out their new song here:
Just thought of an amazing idea for a non-fiction eBook/How-To guide and I’m left wondering why I didn’t think of this earlier! The words are pouring out! I believe I am a true expert in the field I’m writing about and hope to help people achieve their dreams through the book. I’m wondering how long it will take me to complete it…I just did a chapter outline and came up with 25 sections. It’s probably going to end up about 5,000 words…let’s see if I can do it! I also have another work-in-progress that’s at 19,000 words right now….I just have too much stuff going on in my head right now and need to get it all out!
The other Merch Girl in my upcoming novel Merch Girls is named Trina. She’s pretty much a free spirit, doesn’t have a care in the world, is super hot but doesn’t act like it, has more confidence than anyone should and loves to rock out with her bff Lacey. When I saw this photo, the outfit screamed “Trina” to me. I could definitely see her wearing this to one of the band’s shows.
