Bands to Watch – The Royal Knockout

Standard

If you’ve been wondering why there hasn’t been a “bands to watch” post in a while, it’s because out of the hundreds of bands who follow me each week on Twitter, it’s been pretty slim pickings on the ones that I would recommend for you to “watch!” But then these guys came along and broke the streak! Thank goodness because I was starting to get a little worried…

Introducing…The Royal Knockout!

Three guys who play, write and sing. (Sounds just like my fictional band in my upcoming book, Merch Girl!) Anyway…if I were to describe what they sound like, I’d say a combination of The Fray and Something Corporate, if that makes any sense. The sound is still very original though, and the lead singer has the ability to convey a lot of emotion in his voice, which is not something every singer in a band can do. I’m also a sucker for guys who play keyboard 🙂

Check them out for yourself and tell me what you think!

Anticipation!

Standard

So…I’m gearing up for my cover reveal this Saturday, April 20! I can’t wait to share it with everyone and I’m so thankful for the bloggers who have agreed to share it with their readers. It took me a very, very long time to decide on a cover image, so I hope I chose the right one 🙂

I’m also thisclose to publishing! I can just feel it. May 4 is the day that Merch Girl will be live!

If you are a blogger and would like to participate in the cover reveal or review the book, please contact me! RebeccaJLewis(at)gmail(dot)com.

– Reviewed/revised manuscript about a million times

– Decided book was finally complete

– Created social media platforms for my name and book (blog, Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, Pinterest)

– Pulled giant excel list of book bloggers who cover self-published YA authors

– Searched relentlessly for perfect book cover image

– Honed photoshop skills to create amazing book cover

– Reached out to book bloggers to host Merch Girl Cover Reveal on April 20 and sent e-copies for their review

– Painstakingly formatted book files for Kindle and Createspace

– Uploaded files to Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing and Createspace programs

Where am I now?

– Proofing electronic and print files

– Getting pumped up to hit the “go” buttons on May 4 to publish this baby!

Bands to Watch – Late Nite Reading

Standard

Ok, so I’m going down my list of bands who follow me on Twitter, checking out band after band, passing over some so-so ones or bands that aren’t really my taste, but these cuties definitely make the cut!

First of all, their name, Late Nite Reading, is amazing because obviously, I am a writer/aspiring author and love to read late at night! 🙂 Also, the first video that popped up on Youtube was a cover of One Direction’s “One Thing” and it totally reminded me of when I would buy those “Pop Goes Punk” CDs in college, with like Yellowcard covering Michelle Branch. Loved it! Then I listened to some original tunes and they were just as good, if not better than the cover songs.

I’m also digging their “Tour Stories” vids on Youtube…I think that my fictional band, Lansdowne, from my upcoming book Merch Girl, would do the same stuff during their tour down time! It says they are touring in Pembroke Pines, FL, which is near me….but I’ve never heard of that venue before so I’ll have to investigate that one some more.

If you like pop punk, please give these guys a listen! The One Direction cover is below, but check out their original music too, and follow them on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/latenitereading

Summary of my Upcoming Book!

Standard

Here’s the summary of my upcoming YA book, Merch Girl. Let me know what you think!

Image

Seventeen-year-old Lacey Kind doesn’t have the guts to talk to cute
boys, isn’t a size two, and would rather stay home and listen to music
than go to a party. But in the summer before her first year of
college, she ends up thousands of miles away from home, in the back of
a tour bus, underneath the half-naked body of the hottest teen rock
star in the country.

When Lacey and her best friend Trina Thorne sneak into a Boston
nightclub to see their favorite band, they not only get to watch their
rock gods perform for the first time, but score a chance to meet the
band too. Lacey’s heart races as she comes face-to-face with her idol,
nineteen-year-old lead singer, Logan Shire.

The girls charm their way into being hired to sell merchandise on
Lansdowne’s first summer tour. As “merch girls” Lacey and Trina
quickly find themselves transported from their ordinary, suburban life
to an exhilarating few months on the road. But they soon realize life
on the road isn’t always a smooth ride…
